Package: exim
Version: 3.12-10.2
Severity: normal
File: /usr/lib/sendmail

Problem: sendmail uses -N <option> -R <option> to set DSN. This is
reflected in mutt, which will use -N <option> if dsn_notify is set.

However exim will not deliver messages if any "-N" flag appears in the
command line.

Coming from a sendmail-installation and keeping my .muttrc file, I was
stumped for several days why mail would not be sent out, even though
all logs showed green. No, the *> was _not_ enough, having never seen
exim-logfiles before. Only after turning on debugging _and_ comparing
every single switch the reason emerged.

Possible solution:
  - return an error if a sendmail command line contains "-N <option>",
instead of just counting the "-N". This would alert the user to the
    problem.

Workaround:
  - "unset dsn_notify" in your mutt client or .muttrc file.
"set dsn_notify=none" will cause a "-N none" in the command line.

The exim package has been removed from Debian testing, unstable and
experimental, so I am now closing the bugs that were still opened
against it.

For more information about this package's removal, read
http://bugs.debian.org/420191 . That bug might give the reasons why
this package was removed, and suggestions of possible replacements.

Don't hesitate to reply to this mail if you have any question.

Thank you for your contribution to Debian.
