Hello,

I experienced the following problem with exim. I had set it to
use a smarthost and was working fine, but last tuesday my smarthost
was accidentaly blocked by a firewall. the following happened:

- exim attempted to forward mail to my smarthost and failed due to blocked port
- the messages were stored in queue
- i fixed the problem in my smarthost
- next time exim was run, it was unable to forward the mail, although the
smarthost was working propoerly:

2002-06-28 08:58:44 17Np0m-0000Te-00 == [EMAIL PROTECTED] T=remote_smtp defer
(-44): retry time not reached for any host

I think that exim found past failed attempts in its logfiles and this is
why it didn't want to retry.

Purging the exim package and reinstalling with the same configuration
(and a backup of the mail) solved the problem for me.

So exim should not get stucked when a previous attempt of sending a
message fails.

cheers,

The exim package has been removed from Debian testing, unstable and
experimental, so I am now closing the bugs that were still opened
against it.

For more information about this package's removal, read
http://bugs.debian.org/420191 . That bug might give the reasons why
this package was removed, and suggestions of possible replacements.

Don't hesitate to reply to this mail if you have any question.

Thank you for your contribution to Debian.
Barry deFreese
