Package: xmms
Version: 1.2.10-1
I have been expierencing frustrating behaviour when
playing music files afer upgrading from woody too
Sarge. After a while I realized that XMMS was a
common thread in this problem.
After a song plays the sound would turn off, so the
next song would have no volume until I manually
intervened too turn it back on
Apon investigation I found the library xmms was using,
too be the problem.
xmms was using libOSS.so as its output driver, when I
changed this too libesdout.so it resolved the problem.
I achieved this by the following menu options.
Options | Preferences | Audio I/O Plugins
and changed the Output plugin.
Hence it appears that when libOSS.so loads it turns
off the volume, the apparent fix here would be too
alter this behaviour in the library so that it leaves
the volume untouched.
I have done further investigation and found that this
library is installed by the xmms package, so the fault
lies within xmms.
it installs the file in this location:
/usr/lib/xmms/Output/libOSS.so

The xmms package has been removed from Debian testing, unstable and
experimental, so I am now closing the bugs that were still opened
against it.
For more information about this package's removal, read
http://bugs.debian.org/461309 . That bug might give the reasons why
this package was removed, and suggestions of possible replacements.
Don't hesitate to reply to this mail if you have any question.
Thank you for your contribution to Debian.
