Package: gnome-power-manager
Version: 2.14.3-3+b1
Severity: normal
Hi,
on my iBook, the gconf key /apps/gnome-power-manager/dim_on_idle is
ignored; the display is *always* dimmed when the session is considered
idle. Workaround: set /apps/gnome-screensaver/idle_delay to zero.
Here's my g-p-m configuration:
anna[~]$ gconftool-2 -R /apps/gnome-power-manager
battery_brightness = 100
check_type_cpu = true
can_hibernate = true
ac_sleep_display = 1800
action_button_power = interactive
lock_on_hibernate = true
battery_sleep_computer = 1200
action_ac_button_lid = blank
lock_on_suspend = true
dim_on_idle = false
lock_on_blank_screen = true
notify_hal_error = true
ac_brightness = 100
use_time_for_policy = true
notify_fully_charged = true
display_icon_policy = always
policy_suppression_timeout = 5
action_button_suspend = suspend
action_sleep_type = suspend
battery_sleep_display = 420
notify_ac_adapter = true
ac_sleep_computer = 0
action_battery_button_lid = suspend
can_suspend = true
action_button_hibernate = hibernate
action_battery_critical = hibernate
check_type_net = true
lock_use_screensaver_settings = true
anna[~]$
This really has driven me up the wall.

I've finally found that this is actually pbbuttonsd playing by its own
rules. Boy, I had completely forgotten about that...! (As a
consequence, the supposed workaround with /apps/gnome-screensaver
doesn't change anything.)
While having these daemons be completely independent is certainly
confusing, I'm not sure it counts as a bug in either package.
