Package: mc
Version: 1:4.6.0-4.6.1-pre3-3sarge1
Severity: important

Open an SSH (Shell) connection in the left or right pane. There are
directories, where the buffer allocated for dates are not long enough
and dates cannot fit in the character array. This manifests itself in a
"buffer overflow" like problem, when the beginning of the filename
contains a part of the date/time. Example screenshot:

##########################################################################################################

The columns broke into pieces when I pasted the buffer here.
I tried to order them in a line with more or less success.
You can see the broken names starting with a year or a time.
Ordering of entries also reflect the bug, since times are
ordered first, then dates (2004-2005), then letters.
This could cause serious memory management problems.
The problem has been occoured on 3 different machines
with Debian Stable.
