Hi,
the file(1) manpage states that:
The information identiā
fying these files is read from /etc/magic and the compiled magic file
/usr/share/file/magic.mgc , or /usr/share/file/magic if the compile
file does not exist. In addition file will look in $HOME/.magic.mgc ,
or $HOME/.magic for magic entries.
I thought this meant that if ~/.magic exists, its contents are used in
addition to what is contained in the default magic files. However,
looking at the source, if ~/.magic exists, then /etc/magic and
/usr/share/file/magic seem to be completely ignored.
Could this behaviour be changed, or the documentation clarified about
this?
Thanks,
Julien Cristau
