Package: mpage
Version: 2.5-6
To reproduce:
1. Use debiandoc-sgml -1 on a .sgml file, or `man -t ls', to produce a
DSC-conforming PostScript file.
2. Run psnup -pa4 -2 or mpage -2 on the output.
3. Run psnup -pa4 -2 or mpage -2 on the output of psnup or mpage.
4. Use gv to view the result.
Whenever mpage is used more than once, or mpage is fed the output of
psnup, or psnup is fed the output of mpage, the result is incorrect.
When psnup is fed its own output the result is correct.
I conjecture that mpage always produces incorrect[1] output, but that
the incorrectness does not cause symptoms unless further complex
processing is done. The manpage's note about '%%Page' comments
suggests that mpage was written without the necessary understanding of
the DSC.
[1] Where incorrect means non-DSC-conforming.
As a remedy I suggest one of the following:
(a) mpage is removed if we have another good ASCII-to-postscript
converter and there are no broken files that mpage can handle that
psnup can't.
(b) Notices are placed in the manpage and Description for mpage
suggesting that psnup be used instead if manipulation of PostScript
files is wanted. Perhaps mpage should be Extra.
Ian.

Replicating the same "man -t ls" example, here both seem to work fine,
hence closing. Feel free to reopen if you can reproduce with a recent
version of mpage; please attach the full log of shell command
execution (e.g.: using script).
Thanks,
Sandro
