Package: mc
Version: 1:4.6.0-5
Severity: normal

Within the normal file system opening or viewing a .gz file works. That
is, both <enter> and <F3> produce a readable and understandable display.

Pressing <enter> on the same highlighted file within the VFS produces no
output. Viewing the file with <F3> gives the raw mode and it may
require two presses of <F8> to get the file parsed. These behaviours
differ from the potato and woody versions of mc.

One possible way to have the expected behaviour is detailed in

http://mail.gnome.org/archives/mc/2003-April/msg00066.html
