Package: libsane
Version: 1.0.19-23
Severity: normal

The dependency libsane->libsane-extras prevents iscan to be installed, since
iscan collides with libsane-extras but the latter can't be removed, because
libsane
depends on it. This, in turn, prevents me from having the newest version of
the epkowa backend and thus support for the newest scanners.

I also would guess that most people (including me) will first google for
their scanner before looking into /usr/share/doc/libsane to read the
readme.debian, so it should be possible to install iscan from source, since
it's the most obvious solution.

Or is there any reason, that makes this dependency necessary ? Ubuntu and etch
do not have it ...

greetings

Take that up with to the iScan maintainer. I've told him what to do to
avoid that.

Yes there is.
