PACKAGE: samba
VERSION: 3.0.14a-3
When i try to install a BDC/LDAP server via fai, several messages apeared on
my terminal, propably showing that samba trys to convert the Domain Admin
Account in the tdbsam passdb, which must fail because at this time there
isn't any password information to generate tdbsam from. It means for me that
some defaults doesn't configure right and samba thinks there is an account
and a tdbsam but there isn't. The output below:
------------- output begin ---------------
Setting up samba (3.0.14a-3) ...
Generating /etc/default/samba...
TDBSAM version too old (0), trying to convert it.
TDBSAM converted successfully.
account_policy_get: tdb_fetch_uint32 failed for field 1 (min password length),
returning 0
account_policy_get: tdb_fetch_uint32 failed for field 2 (password history),
returning 0
account_policy_get: tdb_fetch_uint32 failed for field 3 (user must logon to
change password), returning 0
account_policy_get: tdb_fetch_uint32 failed for field 4 (maximum password
age), returning 0
account_policy_get: tdb_fetch_uint32 failed for field 5 (minimum password
age), returning 0
account_policy_get: tdb_fetch_uint32 failed for field 6 (lockout duration),
returning 0
account_policy_get: tdb_fetch_uint32 failed for field 7 (reset count minutes),
returning 0
account_policy_get: tdb_fetch_uint32 failed for field 8 (bad lockout attempt),
returning 0
account_policy_get: tdb_fetch_uint32 failed for field 9 (disconnect time),
returning 0
account_policy_get: tdb_fetch_uint32 failed for field 10 (refuse machine
password change), returning 0
------------- output end ---------------
Packages i install that are eventually relevant to this bug:
samba-common(3.0.14a-3), slapd(2.2.23-8), libpam_ldap(178-1),
libnss_ldap(238-1), smbldap-tools(0.8.7-4)
I'm using a modifyed kernel-2.6.8 and libc6 version 2.3.2.ds1-22
An approptiate behaviour would be to create an empty tdbsam if no accounting
information can be retrieved.
Hope i could help supporting debian...

As Jelmer mentioned in September, the wording of the tdbsam database
conversion message has been changed and is now clearer.
I don't have enough archeological skills to dig out when exactly this
was changed....but this was in 3.2.*....
