When auto-
configuring my soundcard, alsaconf choose snd_als300, but puts
"index=0" as a parameter for the module in modprobe.d. Since snd_als300
doesn't support that paramter, alsaconf can't load the module.
After
removing the option index= and loading the module, my soundcard worked.

The index=? parameter shouldbe used by every driver. Checkthe
modinfo command.
Since alsa-utils 1.0.17 (in experimental at the moment) alsaconf
isn't provided by the Debian ALSA packages anymore. To check how to
configure your soundcard via /etc/modprobe.d please read
/usr/share/doc/alsa-base/README.Debian.gz
