I use mutt, and I have a DSL connection that uses ppp. I often keep
mutt running and periodically check for email using the POP protocol. I
have set mutt to remember the password after I input it once.
My DSL provider sometimes disconnects me. When mutt is running when
this happens, mutt freezes when I check for new mail and doesn't accept any
input any more. Restarting the ppp connection does not help. I do get a
different IP address when I restart the connection.
lsof tells me that mutt has in this case still several files and two
connections (sockets) open. It might be that these two connections
still want to use the old IP address which has vanished. (How do I
check that?)
