Subject: gnome-terminal: running terminal as root does not load default settings
Message-ID: <20090304100526.16441.5789.report...@luapbook>
X-Mailer: reportbug 3.48
Date: Wed, 04 Mar 2009 02:05:26 -0800
Package: gnome-terminal
Version: 2.22.3-3
Severity: normal
My gconf2 libraries were recently updated, and when I am logged in as a normal
user and run gnome-terminal as root
(i.e. Applications->Accessories->Root Terminal), the terminal window loads
normally, but the default settings (i.e.
background color) are not loaded, and I get the error message pasted below. I
can still use the terminal normally.
I do not observe this issue with loading default settings if I run the normal
user terminal (i.e.
Applications->Accessories->Terminal). I can replicate this problem on two
different machines that were updated
simultaneously.
Error message upon loading root terminal:
Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need
to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit,
or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See
http://www.gnome.org/projects/gconf/ for information. (Details
- 1: Failed to get connection to session: Did not receive a reply. Possible
causes include: the remote application
did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the
reply timeout expired, or the network
connection was broken.)

The 2.0.9 release of the library fixes these problems with the new
gconf. I just uploaded it to unstable.
Thanks,
