Package: libfreetype6
Version: 2.1.10-1
Severity: normal

Hi!

There seems to be a awkward problem with rendering Bitstream Vera Sans Mono
font at 8pt. When people have a screen set to 95--97 DPI, there is almost
no spacing between the letters and even parts of letter overlap (negative
spacing).
See for example my GNOME terminal:
http://paul.luon.net/tmp/Screenshot-Terminal.png

Since 96DPI is a rather common DPI and 8pt a normal font size for high
resolution screens, this problem should not be a rare one.

This problem seems to occur with Pango using apps/libs like Gecko or VTE.
I have no problem with it in for example the GtkFontSelector widget with
the same text.

I have downgraded to 2.1.7-2.4 and the problem is gone. If I need to
perform some tests, please let me know.

Greetings,

Paul

Hello,

On my laptop LCD @96DPI, running the test case (gnome-terminal with
Bitstream Vera Sans Mono @ 8pt) shows none of the described rendering
errors.  So I believe this bug is resolved in recent versions of FreeType;
closing the report accordingly.

If you are still having problems with the version of libfreetype6 in lenny
or beyond, please reopen and provide more information on how I can reproduce
the error.

Thanks,
