Package: network-manager-gnome
Version: 0.6.6-4
Severity: normal
File: /usr/bin/nm-applet
Earlier this week I updated my Debian/testing system, just as I
regularly
do. Next time I logged in after the installations, gnome-session would
not
start up normally. After the normal login dialog it took a 30 seconds
for my normal desktop to appear, and I got a GNOME-error dialog telling
me:
"There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon."
The dialog also said:
"Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote
application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy
blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection
was broken."
I looked at my .xsession-errors for more details, and the first few
interesting lines were:
SESSION_MANAGER=local/ressu:@/tmp/.ICE-unix/5160,unix/ressu:/tmp/.ICE-unix/5160
Window manager warning: Failed to read saved session
file /home/kaurinko/.metacity/sessions/default0.ms: Failed to open file
'/home/kaurinko/.metacity/sessions/default0.ms': No such file or
directory

** (nm-applet:5192): WARNING **: <WARN> nma_dbus_init(): could not
acquire its service. dbus_bus_acquire_service() says: 'Connection

"org.freedesktop.NetworkManagerInfo" due to security policies in the
configuration file'
(gnome-panel:5180): Gtk-WARNING **: gtk_widget_size_allocate(): attempt
to allocate widget with width -9 and height 24
The nm-applet warning started to repeat itself with a regular interval
until I killed the nm-applet process.
I fully understand the bug I am experiencing may be elsewhere, but I
really
do not get a grip on the issue. I just installed some updates and as a
consequence something stopped working.
I will be glad to help you locate the problem to get it fixed.
Best regards,
Petri Kaurinkoski

Hi Petri,
you hit this bug because a newer, stricter dbus version has already migrated to
testing, while the fixed network-manager packages have not (yet).
The version in unstable is fixed and hopefully (now that most of the library
transitions are over) will migrate in the next couple of days.
Closing as fixed in version 0.7.0-2
Cheers,
Michael
