It would be wonderful if the Debian package of qpsmtpd
could be updated a little from the SVN trunk, and allow
you to choose to use the qpsmtpd-prefork version of
the server.

This performs significantly better under high load.

I'd be willing to contribute a patch to use debconf-settings
to toggle use between the two servers if that would be useful?
