Package: libgconf2-dev
Version: 2.24.0-7
Severity: important
This package installs /usr/share/aclocal/gconf-2.m4 whose GCONF_SCHEMA_FILE_DIR
definition ($(sysconfdir)/gconf/schemas) propagates to aclocal.m4 files,
resulting in gconf schema files being installed to /etc, which lintian is not
happy with:
W: gnote: package-installs-into-etc-gconf-schemas
etc/gconf/schemas/gnote.schemas
N:
N: The package installs files into the /etc/gconf/schemas directory. No
N: package should do this; this directory is reserved for local overrides.
N: Instead, schemas should be installed into /usr/share/gconf/schemas.

There is no bug. Please go fix your package instead of complaining of
things you don’t even seem to understand.

This is lintian showing that your package is buggy. Your package needs
fixing. Not gconf2. I was the one requesting this test to be added to
lintian, and there is no need to do any change to the upstream sources
to fix that.

Currently, everybody seems to be happy with the dh_gconf solution. If
you’re not, you’ll have to deal with it by hand.

Your request would imply to regenerate aclocal.m4 and configure for 200
packages. I think my solution is a bit simpler: fix one package. By
adding a single line to your rules file.
