Package: perl
Version: 5.8.1-4

there are a "dependance" bug when I upgrade perl (5.6.1 => 5.8.1-4),because apt
don't upgrade the libperl-dev in 5.8.1-4.
Also when I use perlcc there are unresolved symbols like this:
#perlcc hello.pl
... undefined reference to `*Perl_Gthr_key_ptr*' ... My interpretation: perlcc don't retrieve perl thread library in libperl-dev (v5.6.1)
when I see compilation options of the 2 versions of perl (perl -V), the 5.6.1
don't seem to be compiled with threads functions.
Moreover I resolved the problem when the libperl-dev 5.6.1 is removed and
v5.8.1-4 is installed after (perlcc seems to use static library libperl.a
(common of both package))

There's little chance of finding out exactly what went wrong anymore,
so I'm closing this.

The changelog entry for 5.8.0-8 says

  * Add dependency on the current version of perl to libperl-dev.

and as of 5.10.0-22, libperl-dev still has a versioned dependency on
the current version of the perl package, which should ensure that
upgrading perl pulls libperl-dev along.

Hope the 5.10 transition worked out better for you,
