cogito up to version 0.12 has some bug causing it no longer to work with
the current linux kernel trees as available on kernel org. tryign a
clean checkout from linus' 2.6 tree, I get:

The upstream 0.12.1 version was released to fix the issue. I compiled
it from hand and can confirm that it is fixed

Description:
 cogito     - version control system
Closes: 317914 319869
Changes:
 cogito (0.12.1+20050730-1) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Updated to Pasky's latest (134b78a167b5f77725cd8435849de7298b6de477).
     (closes: #317914, #319869)
   * Added /usr/bin/git and /usr/bin/cg back in, because they're no longer
     disposable. Renamed /usr/bin/git to /usr/bin/gt to avoid the name
     collision with GNU Interactive Tools. Renamed /usr/bin/cg to /usr/bin/cog
     to avoid the name collision with cgvg. Yes, the Debian Cogito is now
     incompatible with the rest of the world! Yay!
   * Now depends on ssh instead of rsh-client.
