Package: libxapian15
Version: 1.0.7-4
Xapian produces zombies process when unsuccessful locks. This bug is
described in ticket #398 (http://trac.xapian.org/ticket/398).
As discussed in this ticket, there is a patch. I suggest a backport.
I am using an updated version of Debian stable (32bits, i686).

The Debian BTS isn't the place to request an update to a package on
backports.org - instead ask on backports-users:
http://lists.backports.org/mailman/listinfo/backports-users
I'm closing this bug, since (as you're probably aware) it isn't present
in the packages currently in Debian unstable.
Cheers,
Olly
