Package: libicu-dev
Severity: important
Hi,
today I uninstalled libicu-dev, but dpkg was unable to cleanup the
directory /usr/lib/icu. There was no more package owning the directory
/usr/lib/icu, but I had the following files there:
# find /usr/lib/icu/
/usr/lib/icu/
/usr/lib/icu/2.1
/usr/lib/icu/2.1/cnvalias.dat
/usr/lib/icu/2.6.1
/usr/lib/icu/2.6.1/icudt26l_cnvalias.icu
I can only assume that those files where created by libicu-dev after
installation but not cleaned up upon uninstallation.
I also think that this violates policy/fhs, as such application specific
cache files belong into /var.
Cheers,
Michael

Hello. Thanks for taking the time to report the problem you observed
with leftover files in /usr/lib/icu. However, this is not a bug in the
current ICU packages. The files you are seeing are most likely either
left behind by a very old version of ICU or by some other package that
includes some ICU files. Doing a search with packages.debian.org
doesn't show any packages that own these files, so I have to conclude
that these were probably left behind by an old version of something that
is no longer in the archive. If you delete the directory, reinstall
libicu-dev, and then uninstall libicu-dev and still see files there,
then please feel free to reopen this bug. Thanks.
