The dependencies are set so that you dont need a whole set of encoders, but just one is suficient: vorbis-tools (>= 1.0beta4-1) | lame | flac | bladeenc | speex So if you happen to have lame or flac, you have to manually add the other dependencies into your system. Another thing would be recommending all the encoders, so that a user sees that they are not installed by default.
