Package: pidgin
Version: 2.4.0-1
Severity: normal
I am experiencing pidgin crashes, or freezing. User observations lead
me to think, it could be related to esd or alsa somehow. I am using
esd as output for soundevents and music in gnome-settings. I think this
setting is relevant for gstreamer, isn't it? But, i never start esd with
X startup. All works fine, no sound, till start of esd, then every app
configured with auto/esd output works. Except pidgin. It starts
normally, functioning for a while, then, after first message from
anyone, crashes without any notification given to user. Or, it can stay
longer, and then freeze somehow. I was experimenting with sound
output setting in pidgin settings dialog to see, if i am able to
reproduce crash or freezing. No way, with esd running or not, trough
alsa or esd, all combinations. I am not able to force pidgin to crash.
I am not certain it is related to esd/alsa, but there is
nothing else to stick on. I am experiencing crash/freeze only when
esd is not running. To this time, only on 'automatic' sound output
setting in pidgin.
