Package: hal
Version: 0.5.14-1
Severity: important
Hi
Upon upgrading to hal 0.5.14-1, logging into KDE4 through kdm starts
failing. While the password seems to be accepted and a KDE session starts
to load, it fails immediately, the screen turns black and kdm appears
again. Restarting hal or trying to log in several times usually succeeds
after a few attempts.
Another oddity is a distorted (large black rectangle around the mouse
pointer, totally black output on DVI-1, it seems as if the resolution
change wouldn't be updated, as the wallpaper keeps roughly at 1280*1024
(initial resolution) with a black frame at the right side and bottom, small
colorful artefacts at numerous places) screen after I manage to log in and
after trying to set video parameters through xrandr
(xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:6.12.3-1, Radeon RV630):
xrandr --output DVI-0 --mode 1600x1200
xrandr --output DVI-1 --mode 1280x1024
xrandr --output DVI-1 --right-of DVI-0
Reverting back to hal 0.5.13-6 (while keeping libhal1 and libhal-storage1
at 0.5.14-1) fixes both problems for me.
Regards
Stefan Lippers-Hollmann

It's apparently a kde issue:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=219143
Closing this one, as there is already a Debian bug to track this issue
(#561724).
Cheers,
