I've upgraded leafnode from 1.11.6-2 in unstable to
2.0.0.alpha20070108a-1 in experimental. The upgrade broke during
configure; the problem was in postinst, more exactly "${FETCHNEWS} -f
- --" in line 187 failed with an error message saying that it can't
read /etc/news/leafnode/filters.

"Can't read" seems to translate to "cannot parse the old syntax" or
"I don't like comments or empty lines" or something like that (in
fact my old filters file only had some commented out examples).

Commenting out the filterfile option in /etc/news/leafnode/config let
me run dpkg -configure manually; I enabled it later after cleaning up
/etc/news/leafnode/filters.

Maybe you can find some way to deal with the filterfile on upgrades.

Cheers,
gregor
