I'll guess that reportbug just blindly assumes that
sendmail is available and/or useful for sending mail.
Problem is, I don't get a warning. There is no
error message. I'm not given a chance to try some
other method of delivery. The bug report data is
deleted. ZAP, it's gone, silently, and tough luck.

Nothing has changed so far and there are no signals of progress in the
future, hence I'm closing this report (as soon as there's an
alternative BTS submission method, we'll know for sure :) ).
