Cal always switches from Julian calendar to Gregorian calendar in 1752. 
However, this change occured at this date only in the UK and its 
possessions. This modification should depend of the locale used on the 
system. For example, in most of continental Western Europe, the change 
should occur in 1582. You can find a list of dates by country at this

I just noticed that ncal has the logic to use the right switch date per country
for quite some time which means this bug can be closed.
