Package: transmission-gtk
Version: 1.77-1
Severity: normal

Hello

I find the Transmission GTK client really sleek and featureul.
However, the last version available in testing depends on
libgconf and libcanberra, which is unfortunate for people who like
GTK apps but don’t want GNOME.

In see in http://trac.transmissionbt.com/changeset/9634 that the
gconf dep was added to support automatic handling of magnet:
links. If I understand the code correctly, the dependency is
optional, and can be controlled at configure time. For the sake of
people that would like to use Transmission in Xfce, LXDE or even
with a WM but no DE, I’d like if you could build another package
without the gconf dependency. (The package with gconf support
could of course be available too, renamed to transmission-gnome
or something.)

Regarding canberra, introduced in revision 9546, my point is not
as strong, since it is blessed by freedesktop.org. However, even
if it is meant to be DE-agnostic, I remark that only GNOME
applications use libcanberra and libcanberra-gtk at present. If you
agree to build a gconf-free transmission-gtk package, perhaps
you’ll want to remove the canberra dependency too.

Thanks for considering this report.

Regards
