Lenny provides wxWidgets packages for v2.6 and v2.8. However wx-common only
supports v2.6
in Lenny. The wxWidgets development installs (libwxgtk2.8-dev and
libwxbase2.8-dev) can not
be used on packages that use autotools without one of the files in wx-common;
wxwin.m4.
Ideally there would be a wx2.8-common that is dependent on libwxbase2.8-0
available in Lenny.
A work around is to manually extract wxwin.m4 from the wxWidgets v2.8 source
package and copy
it to /usr/share/aclocal.
IMO, wxwin.m4 should be part of the "libwxbasevX.X-dev" packages but a
wx2.8-common package
for Lenny would suffice.

I think that you can try to use a 2.8 based version with the autoconf
stuff in lenny. Take a look at the example here:
http://wiki.wxwidgets.org/Autoconf
I'm guessing that if you set reqwx to 2.8.0 it will work correctly.
(I have not tried it myself)
Anyways, the wxwin.m4 provided by wx-common in squeeze now comes from
wxwidgets 2.8, so if there is a problem then this is fixed for future
Debian releases.
It cannot at this point be fixed in lenny.
