I filed a bug before that wasn't really addressed and I found a new bug so I
will include the previous bug in this message as well since they're similar
bugs.
Previous bug: (GNOME) System --> Preferences --> Keyboard Shortcuts then when I
attempt to assign either one of my super user keys to the "Open a terminal
window" shortcut. I tried this in Ubuntu 9.10 as well (which uses GNOME 2.28
like Squeeze) and it doesn't work there either. I tried on two different
computers. I tested with the 32 bit version of Ubuntu 9.10 and the 64 bit
version of Debian Squeeze.
New bug: In any other OS I've used, when a window is in focus and you press alt
and the space bar and then press x for example you can maximize a window. Given
that Ubuntu 9.10 has the same version of GNOME, I tried to see if the bug
existed there as well and it didn't.
If any additional information is needed, do not hesitate to ask.

Works for me, so closing. Feel free to reopen if you still have the problem.
