Package: wireshark
Version: 1.2.6-1
Severity: wishlist

Why not make wireshark start on Debian without the big MIB warning?

No, wireshark does not crash (like the other MIB bugs mention)... it's
just that there is this big warning upon first startup. It tells the
user that the Debian package still has rough edges.

Why should the Debian package have this big error when the user first
starts it?

Why can't something be done about it so the package starts with no
errors for the first time user?

Yes, he could just change his settings as the message says, but why
can't wireshark on Debian look good right from the start?

When the first time user starts, he sees
The following errors were found while loading the MIBS:
-:0 1 module-not-found failed to locate MIB module `IP-MIB'
same for
IF-MIB TCP-MIB UDP-MIB SNMPv2-MIB RFC1213-MIB IPV6-ICMP-MIB IPV6-MIB

You can avoid this error message by removing the missing MIB modules at
Edit -> Preferences -> Name Resolution -> SMI (MIB and PIB) modules or
by installing them using the snmp-mibs-downloader package.

[Yes, but can't the Debian package have things neatly in place before
the user starts?]

Nor is there any explanation in a /usr/share/doc/wireshark/README.debian
saying it is normal.
