When installing open-vm-tools on 64-bit squeeze i get the following
errors during install:

I am using Debian GNU/Linux 6, kernel 2.6.32-3-amd64 and libc6 2.10.2-6

you need to install open-vm-source and build the modules (see
/usr/share/doc/open-vm-source/README.debian).
