Package: reprepro
Version: 0.5-1
Severity: wishlist
Basically, the subject already says it all.
I would like reprepro to be able to bind to a specific IP on outgoing
connections. The reason behind this is that I have two servers, each
with 2 IPs. Their primary IP has a huge transfer contigent included
while I have to pay for every megabyte which is transfered using the
secondary IP. However, outgoing connections mostly bind to the secondary
IP for some reason (well, actually only on the hot-standby of the two
servers, the active server uses iproute2 to set the default IP on
outgoing connections to the primary IP via heartbeat). Since reprepro is
the major source of traffic on outgoing connections, it would be really
nice if I could make it bind to a specific IP for its outbound
connections.
regards,
Sven

Thanks for the pointer. Unfortunately, I was only able to find some
references to such a perl script (but not the script itself) dating back
to 1999, complete with a hint that it won't work with current apt
versions. And I didn't find any info about how additional methods could
be implemented (all I found out is that the methods accept certain
commands (not which) on their STDIN and act accordingly. But I didn't
search thorougly.
But at least for my purposes, I found a differen workaround:
Immediately before starting reprepro, I save the current default
outbound IP into a shell variable, set it to the one I want reprepro to
use, run reprepro and restore the original default again.
Since I don't see how you could implement my wish and given the fact
that I found a workaround for my situation, I close this bug. Feel free
to reopen it and optionally reassign it to apt (if you see fit for
either choice) so that APT methods might perhaps (in the future) be told
to bind to a specific address on outgoing connections.
Regards,
Sven
