hal is used by k3b for finding devices. Without hal installed, k3b
shows the following error message:
No optical drive found.
K3b did not find any optical device in your system.
Solution: Make sure HAL daemon is running, it is used by K3b for finding
devices.
So, k3b without hal is rather useless. Nevertheless, k3b does not depend
on hal (and doesn't recommend or suggest hal).
