Package: nvidia-xconfig
Version: 1.0+20051122-2
Severity: important

The xorg.conf that is created uses

        Driver "nvidia"

... but startx and xdm report that this driver does not
exist.

It does.

I have no idea what's up.

This is not a bug in nvidia-xconfig. Please install the 96xx legacy driver,
packaged in Debian as
  nvidia-glx-legacy-96xx
  nvidia-kernel-legacy-96xx-source
(a new upload is pending which will add dkms support and bring a lot of
bugfixes).

This bug was opened before lenny was released but the original reporter did
not provide any details about the failure since then. So I assume his issue
was either the same as Laurenz' or fixed inbetween and I'm closing this
report now.
Carl, if the problem still exists in the current version of nvidia-xconfig,
feel free to provide more information and reopen this bug report.

Andreas
