Package: nagios-plugins
Version: 1.3.1.0-9
Severity: normal
I'm noticing that whenever the primary DNS server stops responding
check_ldap starts throwing false errors, complaining that LDAP is down
on 3 Novell servers when the only problem is the primary DNS server is
down. It fails on the first DNS timeout and doesn't try any other
servers. Fiddling with strace it looks like something in the LDAP libs
decided it would be a good idea to do a reverse lookup of the IP it's
connecting to before it connects so that even though it's been handed an
IP by nagios it still feels the need to have a name.
Changing the ordering of the DNS servers in resolv.conf while the
primary server was down "fixed" the issue, as did adding the target
hosts to /etc/hosts but that's not a real solution
