Package: binutils
Version: 2.16.1cvs20060413-1
Severity: important

After the recent upgrade to 2.16.1cvs20060413-1 I am getting a link
failure at the end of the build of my application. If I downgrade to
2.16.1cvs20060117-1 everything works fine. I believe this is related
to
        http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=16625

which is two years old and it would sure be helpful if someone had a
workaround I could apply to my code. Is there any way to keep the
compiler from putting something in the discarded section? I've seen
this same exact error on my 32-bit x86 system, so it's not specific to
x86_64.

Anyway, here is the error message text:

`.gnu.linkonce.t._ZN8Mesquite13QualityMetric15average_metricsEPKdRKiRNS_8MsqErrorE'
referenced in section `.rodata' of libmesquite.a(EdgeLengthQualityMetric.o):
defined in discarded section
`.gnu.linkonce.t._ZN8Mesquite13QualityMetric15average_metricsEPKdRKiRNS_8MsqErrorE'
 of libmesquite.a(EdgeLengthQualityMetric.o)
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
