If it matters, my system's video card is:

...the driver is from a 'nvidia-kernel-legacy-71xx-2.6.24-1-686'
package made with module-assistant.
(Other than that 'xvidtune' works fine, it widens, narrows, resizes, etc. with
no problems.)
A web search shows that this same bug was noted on a Ubuntu forum in 2/18/2007:
"Note, I find that xvidtune tends to crash after pressing the Show
button but the modeline does get printed to the console before all the

In that case I'll just close the bug as unreproducible and hope that it
was fixed inbetween. If someone can reproduce it in a current system, he
may reopen the bug.
