Subject: jpilot-backup: Debian patches break database management
Package: jpilot-backup
Version: 0.51-1
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***

In the copy of jpilot-backup provided with Debian, manipulating the lists of
databases is not saved to the .dbm files. Without the ability to pick which
items to backup, this plugin is pretty useless.

Building a copy from the upstream source produces correct behavior.

Since the only code patch in the Debian version is the small one related to
utf8 strings. My best guess is that, while the strings are being stored as
utf8 in the widget, they aren't being de-utf8'd before going to the dbm_move
function. However, I don't really know much of anything about gtk+/utf8
programming, so that's speculation.

I read through bug#288431, which seems like it has some relation to this
one. I'm seeing the gobbledygook item in the active databases list, and the
crash when trying to move it. Dinking with my LANG variable (which is
normally not present) merely produced carping from gtk+ about the locale not
being supported by the libc and that it was falling back to 'C'.
