Today I decided to upgrade to the latest version in unstable of this
package, to see if it fixes the very slow 2D (3D is fine) performance.
But I can't upgrade it, as for some reason it tries to remove my running
kernel:

Yes, they were unfortunately-named development kernels during the squeeze
development cycle, and the current packages conflict with them because
they tend to interfere with correct kernel module builds by causing the
system to build the driver for the wrong kernel.
I'm going to go ahead and close the bug now.
