It happens as soon as the kernel module is loaded.
>From memory, starting X now with the matching X driver will hang the
computer (at least with the 2.6.17 kernel, haven't tried it again with

I'm closing this bug now because
- the problem happened with kernel 2.6.17 which predates oldstable (etch,
which was using 2.6.18)
- etch is no longer supported for quite some time already
- the legacy-71xx drivers were not included in lenny
- the legacy-71xx will be no longer be usable with the Xorg in squeeze
- NVIDIA does not support Xen very well
- the report is nearly 4 years old and no new information has been provided
since submission
