Package: pommed
Version: 1.35~dfsg-1
Severity: normal
When I boot up my powerbook G4 1.5GHz computer, the backlit keyboard
comes on around when X starts, if I am in a dark room. The keyboard
controls for the brightness setting work mostly. (more on that below.)
It seems as if the backlight remains functional as long as I am in the
gdm3 login screen. About 16 seconds after I enter my password and login
to gnome using gdm3, and about 4 or 5 seconds before the upper and lower
panels display, the backlight cuts out and the hotkeys no longer enable
the backlight.
I tried booting up without pommed installed, and the backlight didn't
work. I then installed pommed from the command line and and the keys
turned on! However, they seemed to die randomly sometime later, maybe
after 15 seconds, I'm not sure.
The backlit keyboard works with pbbuttonsd, but there are some
long-standing issues with that package, including conflicts with some
other package that reads hotkey presses, so I don't use it.
One weird thing with the brightness controls before I log in, is that
when holding the dimming button combination, the brightness goes to
zero, then up a couple of steps and then down again, and repeats until I
let go. If you plotted the brightness on a graph, it would look like the
trajectory for a bouncing ball. (or maybe y= x mod n).
I hope this helps.
-Drew
