Package: debhelper
Version: 8.1.0
Severity: wishlist

Hey,

with the fix to #601037 (which appeared in 8.1.0) some rules are broken.
I used to use some overrides rules to modify the target command only for
a package. Such an example for demoting a Depends to a Recommends:

override_dh_shlibdeps:
  dh_shlibdeps -p xfconf -X debian/xfconf/usr/bin/xfconf-query -- \
    -dRecommends debian/xfconf/usr/bin/xfconf-query -dDepends
  dh_shlibdeps --remaining-packages

or have multiple debugging packages:

override_dh_strip:
  dh_strip -p $(EXO_SONAME) --dbg-package=$(EXO_SONAME)-dbg
  dh_strip -p exo-utils --dbg-package=exo-utils-dbg
  dh_strip --remaining-packages

It'd be nice to have that behavior back so we're not forced to specify every
remaining packages.

Regards,
--
Yves-Alexis

   * Improve handling of logging in override targets, so that
--remaining-packages can be used again. Now all debhelper commands run
in the override target are marked as running as part of the override,
and when the whole target is run, the log is updated to indicate that
commands run during the override have finished. Closes: #612828
