Package: samba
Severity: wishlist
Please support running multiple instances of samba.
This is useful for things like running totally
separate shares for two different networks, using
a single host.
Something like
- if /etc/samba/smb-*.conf does not exist:
- start a single instance using /etc/samba/smb.conf
- else:
- for $FOO in /etc/samba/smb-FOO.conf:
- start instance, write pid to /var/run/smbd.$FOO.pid, etc.
This assumes daemon mode, of course. If using inetd,
the admin can just execute samba with different command lines
from inetd, depending on which instance the request was for.

During last years, we worked with upstream to drop nearly all
fhs.patch.
I think that, by doing this, we progressively restored the
funtionality bringed by "lock dir" et al.
Please open a new bug report if that's untrue.
