$ fakeroot fakechroot /usr/sbin/debootstrap --variant=fakechroot sid bla
(something like this is used by debirf to create the initramfs)
currently fails with:

Unpacking replacement coreutils ...
dpkg: ../../src/archives.c:754: tarobject: Assertion `r == stab.st_size' failed.
Aborted (core dumped)
The code in dpkg that fails is:
