The unversioned conflict on ivtv-utils obviously prevents both packages from
being installed simultaneously, which is not ideal for users.
Since upstream are migrating utilities one-by-one from ivtv-utils to v4l-utils
I think a more coordinated approach to packaging the two sets of utilities
should be used in order to transition users from ivtv-utils to v4l-utils in a
smooth way.
To that end I have prepared ivtv-utils 1.4.1-2 which removes those utilities
which have already been moved to v4l-utils in favour of a dependency on
v4l-utils.
However in order for this to work the unversioned conflict needs to become a
versioned one, as per the attached patch.
I will commit the change to ivtv-utils to the package repository on alioth[0]
shortly but will not upload until v4l-utils has been uploaded with the
versioned conflict.
I would also appreciate it if you would coordinate with me in the future as
further tools are moved from ivtv-utils to v4l-utils.
Presumably at some point in the future all the useful tools will have moved
across at which time I think it makes sense to add a dummy transitional package
to
v4l-utils and request that the ivtv-utils source package be removed from the
archive.
