That's really weird. Something (and it's not the nvidia alternatives
packages) created a libGL.so.1 directory. That was diverted/moved around
by the alternatives packages. And for some reason the nvidia libGL.so.1
was not activated in the alternatives. So the linux loader tried to use
a directory as a shared library ... purging and reinstalling related
packages fixed this.
If you can reproduce how your system got into this state I'll add some
checks for directories to the alternatives packages. But until then,
I'll close this report.
