Package: vlc-plugin-svgalib
Version: 0.8.6.h-4+lenny2
Severity: important

When trying to run vlc using -V svgalib with vlc-plugin-svgalib
installed, can only run it as root (with no sound),
or

su -pc 'vlc --vout svgalib some.mpg '

in which case it ignores the keyboard while running.
Setting the vlc binary setuid as root, or trying to run
with sudo fail.

    Hello,

Permission to /dev/input/ nodes is required to get input events from
svgalib. These nodes are not normally accessible to unprivileged users as
it would enable key logging other users on multi-user systems. Since Debian
VLC cannot run as root, you'd need to give your user permission to read
those files.

In any case, support for svgalib has been dropped upstream. You should
really consider switching to the FrameBuffer instead.
