Package: autofs
Version: 3.1.7-3
Severity: wishlist

I wonder if you can see about adding this feature? From Bug#128192:

Karl Hegbloom wrote:

I use "autofs" and have:

 /mnt/rem /etc/auto.rem --timeout=1

 ... in /etc/auto.master, and:

 floppy -fstype=auto,nosuid,nodev,sync,user,rw,uid=0,gid=25,umask=002
:/dev/floppy/0

... in /etc/auto.rem. I can mount a vfat diskette as a normal user this way...

What's wrong is that when I put an ext2fs diskette in the drive, it fails to
mount, reporting that "uid" is an unrecognized mount option.

I would like to either have that downgraded from error to warning, or, to
have the uid option implemented, so that a "fstype" of "auto" will work
with all the mount options no matter what filesystem type is on the diskette.

Herbert Xu responded that:

>> to retry with a different set of options for instance.

... and finally, his response to my further question:

I don't believe either tool supports the sort of fallback that you want.

One way of implementing it would be to provide an alternative set of
options in the autofs file should one fail, something like

floppy -fstype=auto,<lots of options>,-fstype=auto,<a shorter list>
:/dev/fd0

should be doable.
