In the German manpage it says:
-s (silent) keine Ausgabe außer Fehlermeldungen
That is wrong, It should be
-s (silent) Unterdrückuing der Ausgabe von Fehlermeldungen über nicht
gefundene oder nicht lesbare Dateien.
The sense is directly opposite.

[Getting around to clean up some rather old bug reports on manpages-de,
finally.]
This report only applies to the woody version of manpages-de and had
already been fixed for sarge at the time of submission. It was not
severe enough to warrant an update to the stable distribution, so
nothing else could be done about it. Actually, the original manpages was
not wrong, it just documented the original grep implementation which
indeed used opposite logic compared to GNU grep. I've retranslated the
current English manpage for grep from scratch for version 0.4-6 of
manpages-de that also includes a detailed explanation of the differing
behaviour for -s.
